BCC Cheer Competition by Juila Schmidt

Updated on 08/29/2023

Last Saturday, January 5th, Bay City Central’s Varsity Competitive Cheer Team competed at Midland High School. The team faced the other division two teams including John Glenn, Carlton Airport, Fenton, Linden, and Mt. Pleasant. The Bay City Central Wolves took 2nd place scoring a total of 685.54 points.

It was a tough fight against Carlton Airport, who took first. The Varsity Cheer team has currently won their first two competitions and took second in their last. The 5 time consecutive Saginaw Valley Champions, and 2016, 2018 District Champions have a new coach this year, but they are still taking the wins.

According to the team they are preparing themselves to win the Saginaw Valley Championship for the sixth time, and possibly even districts. If they win districts this year, it would be the first time the Varsity Cheer team has ever won districts two times in a row. Kylie Yanick, a Varsity Cheer Senior, said, “The highlight of the competition was finishing round three and realizing everyone hit all of their stunts. I’m looking forward to getting an even higher score in round three at the next competition.”

She also said, “I think that our team is going to continue to improve in our scores and win competitions.” The team has been improving a lot all season, so the potential is there. The wolves next competition is Saturday, January 12th at Breckinridge High School.

Districts for Varsity Cheer by Ashleigh Chesterfield

Updated on 08/29/2023

On February 16th, Bay City Central Varsity Competitive Cheer Team had their District Cheer Competition held at Linden High School. The girls had three rounds to determine if BCCVCC could make it to regionals. With 12 teams attending the competition, Bay City Central needed to place in the top four to move on to Regionals.

The BCCVCC team had a lot of support from fans to go on and score 697.56 points total. They placed seventh falling short from a top four win, they will not be attending regionals next Saturday. A cheer dad Jeremy Nadolski said “Even the best teams fall short sometimes, but we are still proud of our girls.”

Bay City Central may have fallen short, but there performance was only beaten one other time by .26 points.  The teams in the district competition were stronger teams then the girls have faced in any other competition. The points scored at districts were 220.1 in round one, 199.36 in round two and 278.1 in round three.

This year the team got new coaching staff, that didn’t have any prior coaching experience and despite that the girls did an excellent job and tried there absolute best. This is the first year, in five years that BCCVCC has not moved on to regionals. Best wishes to the team for next year.
