To conclude their first winning season in 15 years, Bay City Central beat Flint Community Schools at the buzzer thanks to Austin Williams. To add to the excitement, the game was played on BCC’s Senior Night.
BCC came out a bit sluggish and struggled all game to get control. Flint, despite being 1-18, came out to fight for a win on senior night. With BCC up by one and 15 seconds left, Flint stole the inbound pass and scored to take the lead with eight seconds left.
BCC was left with no timeouts and had to react. Senior Marcus Marcott inbounded the ball to Brian Elder, who passed it up court to Elias Ramirez, who found Austin Williams streaking down the court. With a lob pass that Williams caught and finished at the buzzer to give Central the win.
“Our seniors maintained their composure and quickly responded by advancing it up the court, and got a great look to win the game,” coach Jordan Duby said. “Tonight was another close one where we did just enough to get the win.”
Bay City Central ended their first winning season since 2004 with great momentum heading into their first round of districts. BCC heads into districts looking for a return to the title game against the host team Midland High Monday, February 25th at 7pm.
