Elias Ramirez by Megan Groulx

Bay City Central High School has many stellar athletes. One in particular that stands out on and off the court is Elias Ramirez. Ramirez has been on the basketball court since the 3rd grade, and does not plan on stepping off anytime soon.

Ramirez is currently prepping for his fourth, and final year on the varsity basketball team here at Central. Also being a captain of the varsity team, one of Ramirez’s goals of the season is to lead his team on a run in districts, and even regionals. Every morning Ramirez is in the gym, or weight room by 6 A.M. until 7:20 to improve on skills, build on his athleticism, and grow as a player. All this extra time in the gym has payed off and Ramirez was awarded the all valley award the past 2 seasons, and an all state honorable mention last season. Ramirez is currently at 822 points in his high school career, and hopes by the end of his time at Central to beat the school record, of Eric Devendorf’s 1224 points.

However, Ramirez’s love for basketball doesn’t just stop at Central High. He is also on one of the top AAU teams in the country, 1nation Elite. Once high school season is over, Ramirez spends his weekdays at practice, and his weekends participating in tournaments all over the country.

As his high school and AAU time is coming to an end, this is not where his career will stop. Recently, Ramirez received an offer from the D2 college of Northwood University. Ramirez plans on attending this school, and continuing on in his basketball journey. Ramirez is an outstanding athlete, and a very deserving one at that.
